California privacy notice
Your rights under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, and the same rights we extend to readers in other US states.
Last updated November 2, 2026.
This page sits alongside the privacy notice, which lists everything we collect. This one answers the questions California law requires us to answer, in the order it asks them.
The short version
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for cross context behavioural advertising. We have never done either, and we do not receive money or anything of value for your data. There is therefore no Do Not Sell link on this site, because there is nothing to opt out of. You can still switch off every optional tool from Cookie settings in the footer, and we would rather you did that than wonder.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
What we collect, in the law's categories
| Category | Do we collect it | What it is here | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | Yes | Email address, first name, and the name you put on a comment | To send the newsletter, reply to you, and publish your comment |
| Commercial information | No | ||
| Internet or network activity | Yes, in totals | Pages viewed, referring site, seconds on an article | To count which stories get read. Not linked to a person |
| Geolocation data | No | ||
| Audio, electronic, visual information | Only if you allow it | Microsoft Clarity can record a replay of the page as you saw it | To find broken layouts. Off until you agree in the banner |
| Professional or employment information | Yes, if you type it | Company name on a form, if you fill that box in | To understand who is writing to us |
| Inferences drawn to create a profile | No | ||
| Sensitive personal information | No |
Every category above comes straight from you, except the reading totals, which come from your browser loading a page. We keep each item for the period set out in the privacy notice, and no longer.
Who else sees it
We disclose personal information only to the service providers who help us run the publication, under contracts that forbid them using it for anything else: Google, for the sheet that holds newsletter addresses and for analytics if you allow it, and Microsoft, for Clarity if you allow it. That is a disclosure for a business purpose, not a sale.
Your rights
- Know
- Ask what we have collected about you, where it came from, why we have it and who we gave it to.
- Access
- Get a copy of it.
- Delete
- Have it deleted, with the narrow exceptions the statute allows.
- Correct
- Have anything inaccurate fixed.
- Opt out of sale or sharing
- Nothing to opt out of here, but the right stands if that ever changes.
- Limit the use of sensitive information
- We collect none, so there is nothing to limit.
- No retaliation
- Using any of these rights changes nothing about what you can read or receive here.
How to make a request
Write to hello@intelliainsight.com with California request in the subject line, and say which right you are using. We confirm within 10 business days and answer within 45 days. If we need longer we will tell you why and take no more than 90 days in total. It is free.
We verify a request by replying to the address the data is held under. If your data is not held under an email address we can match, we may not be able to act on the request, and we will say so rather than guess.
An authorised agent may act for you if you give them written permission and we can confirm it with you directly.
Other US states
Readers in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas and the other states with a comprehensive privacy law have comparable rights. Rather than run a separate process for each, we give every reader the rights on this page. Use the same address and the same subject line.
For the text of the California law and the regulator's own guidance, see the California Privacy Protection Agency and the California Attorney General.
